Description
Genealogy Workshop sponsored by Minnesota State Society Daughters of the American Revolution (MNSSDAR) Event: Genealogy Workshop sponsored by MNSSDAR Program Date: Saturday, November 17, 2018 Location: Beltrami County Historical Society, 130 Minnesota Avenue SW, Bemidji, MN 56601 Have you ever wondered if you had an ancestor who was a patriot in the American Revolution, or even a passenger on the Mayflower? If so, you are invited to attend a genealogy workshop sponsored by the Minnesota State Society Daughters of the American Revolution (MNSSDAR) on Saturday, November 17. It will be held at the Beltrami County Historical Society, 130 Minnesota Avenue SW in Bemidji, Minnesota. Learn how to trace your ancestors and document your family lineage for purposes of joining the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), Children of the American Revolution (C.A.R.), and the Mayflower Society. Much of the information will be applicable to any other lineage society focused on early American colonization. Occasionally documenting your lineage is not possible with a conventional paper trail. In those cases, it is time to find out who you really are by using state of the art DNA analysis. The program on DNA Testing to Prove Lineage will review the three major DNA test services and what you can learn from them. The DNA test services include Family Tree DNA, Ancestry.com, and 23 and Me. The presenter is Dianne Plunkett Latham, who is the MNSSDAR Vice Regent as well as a Family Tree DNA (ftDNA.com) Surname Administrator. The genealogy workshop consists of two programs with the following schedule. 9:00 – 9:10 Welcome and Introduction – Glenda Meixell, State Organizing Secretary, MNSSDAR 9:10 – 10:45 Lineage Workshop for Membership in DAR, SAR, C.A.R. and Mayflower Society – Registration Required for Materials 10:45 – 11:00 - Break 11:00 – 12:30 DNA Testing to Prove Lineage – Registration Required for Materials There is no charge for the genealogy workshop. You can register for either or both programs. Participants may attend in person or via Skype. Participants may also register for a private session with a DAR Lineage Research Committee member to help you with your application. Registration is required in order to receive the handouts, which will be sent electronically. Participants can print them and bring them to the workshop. When registering, indicate whether attendance will be in person, or via Skype. To register for the workshop, send your name, address, email and phone number to: Glenda Meixell, State Organizing Secretary, MNSSDAR at glendameixell@gmail.com or call 763-786-0306. The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism. Its members are descended from the patriots who won American independence during the Revolutionary War. With more than 177,000 members in approximately 3,000 chapters worldwide, DAR is one of the world's largest and most active service organizations. DAR members are committed to volunteer service having served more than 12.5 million hours in communities throughout the world during the past three years.
